Beginning Sept. 1, 2016 the size limit for bass in the Sabine River will drop from 14 inches to 12 inches. After State Representative Dade Phelan filed HB 1979 the Texas Parks and Wildlife determined through a study that dropping the limit would not damage the bass population in the river.
The change in size will not only help the local fishermen bring home a few more fish to fry, but will increase the chances of bringing more bass tournaments to the area. The Bass Champs Team Championship will be the first out of town tournament taking advantage of the new regulations. They will fish out of Orange in October.
In other bass news, the 2017 Bassmaster Elite schedule was reelased Aug. 31 and the Elites will be fishing at both Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn in 2017.
