Orange police Tuesday morning arrested 29-year-old Hassan Kent Bell for robbery in connection with a theft and assault at a 16th Street convenience store Saturday afternoon.
In an affidavit of probable cause, police said a man stealing a bottle of beer from the store punched the store clerk in the face several times. Detective Sergeant C.J. Foreman said in the affidavit the robbery was at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Shell store, 1402 16th Street. Sergeant Foreman said the clerk, who owns the store, “had blood all over his face, hands and clothing” when officers arrived.
According to the affidavit, the clerk said a man carrying a satchel came into the store and put a 24 ounce bottle of Olde English beer into the satchel. When the man was walking out without paying, the clerk tried to get the beer back and the man ran away. The clerk chased after the thief and fell to the ground. The man with the beer went to the clerk and punched him in the face at least three times before running away.
The clerk was treated at the store Saturday by Acadian Ambulance.
