The Pinehurst City Council will hold just one council meeting this month and one in December because of the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Tuesday’s meeting of the City Council will be the only meeting his month and the December meeting will be held Tuesday evening, December 15. The City Council approved Tuesday casting all 29 of Pinehurst’s votes for John Zerko on the Board of Directors of the Orange County Appraisal District. The Council also approved two budget amendments for last year’s budget concerning the state share of court fines in Pinehurst which exceeded the projected amount budgeted and to help pay for the demolition of the structure on Park Avenue at 33rd Street. The cleared land on Park will be used to create a dog park. Mayor Pete Runnels indicated the priority is to move forward first with improvements to West Park also located on Park Avenue before beginning work on the dog park. A walking track and additional play ground equipment are planned for West Park according to the mayor. City Administrator Robbie Hood gave an update to the City Council on the meeting last week of the Board of Directors for the Orange County Economic Development Corporation. Hood reminded the council that Pinehurst was one of several entities that had budgeted funds in the current fiscal year for economic development and emphasized the team concept of all the entities bonding together to attract businesses to Orange County.
