Downtown Orange commercial projects continue to be strong with the largest building permit issued in October going to renovate an office building at 707 Front Street.
James Gilliam’s H.T. Group staffing company is spending nearly $381,000 to renovate the building. G&G Enterprise of Orange is the contractor, according to city of Orange building permits. The company is also getting an air-conditioning and heating system valued at $26,700.
Other commercial projects are a $20,000 remodeling for the State Line Chevron at 2323 Lutcher Drive off Interstate 10, and a $20,000 remodeling at the former Ramada Inn, 2614 Interstate 10. The Hansvin Corporation will be opening the Brick and Barley bar.
Residential work wasn’t as strong during the month. The most valuable was a residential storage building valued at $29,400. Two residential add-ons were valued at a total of $4,600. Two leveling jobs were valued at $4,500, and two residential re-roofing jobs were worth a total of $34,700.
Jadco Partners received a demolition permit to tear down 3130 16th Street, the former Two Amigos and Cody’s restaurants. In addition, residential demolitions were issued to tear down houses at 3124 16th Street, 3115 15th Street and 3111 15th Street. The properties are adjacent.
Commercial development is expected for the land in conjunction with the Interstate 10 improvements. The landowner has not announced any specific businesses or development.
One permit was issued for a demolition of a house. The house was at 1105 Orange Avenue in the Old Orange Historic District. The house had been vacant for a number of years and vandals had stripped it of architectural features. The city’s Historic Preservation Commission approved the demolition.
