Longtime local attorney Lynwood Sanders died Friday. He was the president and general counsel for Sabine Title Company and specialized in real estate law. Sanders graduated from LSU law school in 1957 and the moved to Orange where he began his career in real estate law. His downtown law office complex has been one of the landmarks on Front Street in downtown Orange. Sanders was an active member of the Democratic Party for decades, including the years when the party dominated local and state politics. He served several years as chair of the Orange County Democratic Party. In 1972, he was the county chair for Charlie Wilson’s first campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives. Wilson went on to serve 12 years in Congress and kept his friendship with Sanders. The colorful congressman often held press conferences at Sanders’s office. Sanders was also a longtime member of the Orange Rotary Club and was active in the Sabine Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. Earlier this month, the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce honored Sanders as one of the first two peopled given a Lifetime Achievement Award.
