On July 3 at 2:34 AM, Officers from the Orange Police Department were dispatched to 1802 Mississippi, Burkart’s Marina, in reference to a possible alligator attack. Upon arrival on the scene at 2:39 AM, Officers were advised that Tommy Woodward, of Orange, and a female were swimming in the bayou when the 28 year old Woodward was attacked by a large alligator. Witnesses said the two were drinking at the marina’s bar when they decided to go into the water although they were told not to and there are signs posted that say “No Swimming.” The Orange County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene with a boat along with a Game Warden from Texas Parks and Wildlife. Woodward was located at 4:29 AM, deceased, near the area in the water. Judge Price responded to the scene and ordered an autopsy.
