Four months since Tropical Storm Harvey hit the county, most of the personnel at the Orange County Courthouse are back in their offices. The District Attorney’s staff moved back into their offices on the first floor of the courthouse the week before Christmas. They were being housed in the Convention and Expo Center on FM 1442 since the storm.
The last group to move back will be the District Clerk’s Office according to County Judge Brint Carlton. There is still painting that needs to be done in the District Clerk’s office space at the west end of the first floor of the courthouse. That and some minor touch up needs to be done before the staff can move back into the office. The judge hopes the personnel will be back in shortly after the New Year.
Carlton added there is a little bit of work to be done in some of the other offices with minimal disruption of services. “We’re happy that everyone’s back in their places or soon will be back in their places and can continue to serve the public,” Carlton concluded.
Currently, the District Clerk’s personnel are working in the Adult Probation Office across the street from the Courthouse. Judge Carlton has expressed hope that jury trials could start up again in January with the mailing out of jury summons as more people are returning to their homes following Harvey.
