A great weekend for Orange County football and the Deweyville Pirates. Five of the six are in the playoffs and Vidor has a good chance for the OC sweep this Friday. LCM, Orangefield and Deweyville have District Champs tshirts on order and West Orange-Stark could also if they beat Hamshire-Fannett Friday. (photo Roger Cacak)
LCM 43 Huffman 40
The LCM Bears went toe to toe with the high flying Falcons and Huffman lead at half 28-21. In the second half the Falcons went up 34-21 but it didn’t last long as Kaden Boatman returned the kickoff 90 yds. to keep the Bears in the game. Huffman would score but fail on a 2pt. conversion to go up 40-28. LCM (8-2, 6-0) would respond with a 17 yd. pass from Braylon Lewis to Jakson Struwe to make it 40-35. Huffman would try a fourth down play from their own 35 and the Bear defense made the stop and the Bears took advantage of a short field with a Lewis TD and a 2pt. conversion to put the Bears up 43-40. Huffman had more than three minutes left in the game but the Bear D kept them out of the endzone. In fact they outscored Huffman 15-0 in the fourth quarter for the win and the title. Big team effort for the Bears but a shoutout to Huffman’s Sawyer Jameson who had 170 yds. rushing, 111 receiving, and five TD’s.
WOS 55 Tarkington 7
The Mustangs improved to 8-1 overall and 4-0 in district with a win over the Longhorns (1-8, 0-4). WOS spread the ball around with QB Marcus Turner going 4-8 for 96 yds. and a 28 yd. TD pass to Raymond Mallett. Turner also ran the ball just three times but scored twice. Khelvy Jefferson scored a rushing TD while Raymond Shaw and Dylan Myers scored two each as the offense put up 350 yds (254 on the ground) and the defense held Tarkington to 200 yds. of offense. Mustangs travel to Hamshire-Fannett (8-1, 4-0) for the district title.
Deweyville 49 Sabine Pass 13
The Pirates get a deserved week off this week after winning the district title against the Sharks. The Pirates rolled up 365 yds. of offense with Ayden Kelley and Jaxon Slone leading the way. Kelley had 95 yds. and three TD’s and Slone ran for 83 and a score, and he caught a 12 yd. TD pass from Kallel Crooks, AND Slone had an interception.
Bridge City 24 Liberty 0
The Cards defense was once again on display as they pitched a shutout and scored on a fumble recovery. It’s the fifth time BC (8-1, 5-1) has held their opponent to a touchdown or less. The offense rode the legs of the districts leading rusher, Ashton Sumrall, who had 116 yds. QB Hutch Bearden ran for a score and threw a TD to Abraham Munguia. Kasen Watts added a 25 yd. FG.
Vidor 57 H-Jefferson 22
The Pirates (4-5, 3-3) won their third straight game and have a chance to make the playoffs if they bet Livingston this week. Vidor is averaging 49 points per game during their win streak and will face a Livingston team that’s giving up 40 ppg in district.
