The University Interscholastic League does many things that’ll make you scratch your head but the one thing that I have to give them a little sympathy for is when they have to realign the districts every two years.
It’s one thing to decide where the cutoff numbers will be for each classification. It’s an even larger task to decide how the districts will be laid out for the next two years, while trying to keep the same number of schools in each classification.
With that being said the UIL released the cutoff numbers this week, and it was little surprise that Orangefield would move back into 4A and Lumberton would move up to 5A after the snapshot numbers they turned in in October.
Also Beaumont United will move down to 5A and Vidor will drop to 4A. Bridge City will see a change in football, going from 4AD1 to 4AD2.
The new districts won’t be released until February 2020.
Below you will find the comparisons for 35 area schools, comparing their high school enrollment numbers from 2018-20 to 2020-2022. Fourteen of the 35 schools saw an increase in enrollment.
