The Orangefield Bobcats went into extra inning Tuesday in their district opener against state ranked Kirbyville, and they came away with the 3-2 win in a game broadcast on KOGT.
Kirbyville took a 1-0 lead in the second but the Bobcats tied it up in the fourth. Johnny Armstrong walked and Kent Michael bunted him to second. Kadeon Evans brought him with the first hit of the night for OF.
Kirbyville took a 2-1 lead in the seventh. In the bottom of the seventh Gunner Jones singled in Evans to tie the game. The Bobcats had a chance to win with a runner at third but instead ended the seventh with the bases loaded.
Evans came in to pitch the eighth and took out the top of the Wildcat lineup in order. KV also changed pitchers in the eighth, bringing in Tyler Brown. Armstrong lead off with a single. Michael reached on a fielders choice. Evans then walked to load the bases. Blake Bradley was at the plate when Brown threw a wild pitch, scoring Armstrong for the win.
Starting pitchers Bradley and James Burchett were solid. Burchett had given up just two hits thru six innings. In the seventh he gave up two more hits and recorded seven strikeouts for the game. Bradley gave up two runs on four hits with six K’s and two walks thru seven.
OF (1-0) travels to East Chambers Friday.
Bridge City beat Silsbee on the road 12-2. Sam Carpenter opened a tie game with a 3 run homer for the Cards.
LCM pounded Liberty 14-4. Anthony Bandiero was 2-4 with a HR and 4RBI’s. Taylor Gilbert also had two hits.
WOS lost to Hamshire-Fannett 8-3
Deweyville was defeated by Big Sandy 16-1

The Orangefield Lady Bobcats defeated the Kirbyville Wildcats 4-3.
Ryden Stanfield had a walk and a run scored. Codie Sorge went 1 for 3 with a run scored. Emma Humplik went 2 for 3 with a triple and 3 RBIs. Alyssa Dodd went 1 for 3. Olivia Grant reached base all 3 times with 2 walks and a hit by pitch and scored a run. Hannah Dupuis went 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Codie Sorge celebrated her 16th birthday getting the win on the mound giving up no earned runs on 8 hits with 11 strikeouts.
The Lady Bobcats improve to 12-6 on the season and 2-1 in district play. They return to action next Tuesday, March 19th at home vs. Warren.
The WOS Lady Mustangs lost to Hamshire-Fannett 12-2 in 6 innings. Gabby Tims went 3-4 with an RBI and Aliyah Mims added the other RBI going 1-2.
