The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has been working to repair the swing bridge on East Roundbunch Road which is also FM 1442. The repairs have closed the bridge over Cow Bayou for months.
County Judge Carl Thibodeaux said the completion of repairs to the Roundbunch Road bridge are important to the prospective Chevron-Phillips Chemical plant coming to Orange County. The bridge will provide access to the plant from FM 1442 and points to the south.
Thibodeaux has discussed the progress of the repairs to the bridge with the county’s Road and Bridge Engineer Clack Slacum. The actual bridge structure was brought in by a barge and will be set across Cow Bayou. Work has progressed to the point that the installation of the structure is close.
TxDOT has informed Slacum the bridge should be open to traffic again by the end of June and the total project should be completed by July. The county judge is excited to have the bridge back in operation possibly within the next 90 days. “It is a very important traffic artery for Orange County and once the project is completed, we can have a bridge for a long, long time,” Thibodeaux reminded.
