Several acres of land in front of the new hospital under construction burned Wednesday after a spark ignited a grass fire.
Orange firefighters were called about 11:15am after winds moved a grass fire across the property. ESD 4 also helped with a brush truck. It took them about an hour to get things under control. They believe the fire was sparked from construction workers who were cutting rebar.
A firefighter on scene said the ground was still soft enough to get one of their trucks stuck. But with the winds as strong as they’ve been, it doesn’t take long for grass to dry enough to burn.
