Lamar University took a break from its busy athletics calendar Saturday to honor the six newest members to the Cardinals Hall of Honor – Chastadie Barrs (women’s basketball, 2015-19), Atiim Browne (men’s basketball, 1990-94), Eric Cammack (baseball, 1995-97), Collin DeLome (baseball, 2005-07), Clay Hensley (baseball, 2002) and Dawie van der Walt (men’s golf, 2004-07) were inducted.
The Class of 2024 – which was officially inducted during a ceremony Saturday morning at the Setzer Center Ballroom – were also recognized at halftime of the Cardinals’ football game against Southeastern Louisiana.
The newest class consists of six individuals competing in four sports covering three decades of Cardinal athletics. The six incoming inductees recorded 12 all-conference selections, five All-America honors, three conference players/golfers/hitters of the year and includes numerous school, conference and NCAA record holders.

Chastadie Barrs (Women’s Basketball, 2015-19)
A four-year letterwinner … 2019 AP Honorable Mention All-American … 2019 SLC Player of the Year … A four-time All-SLC selection … Two-Time First-Team All-Southland Conference … Became the first player in Southland Conference history (and remains the only player in league history) to receive the league’s defensive player of the year award all four seasons … Led the Southland in steals all four seasons and led the nation in three of her four years (the only season she didn’t lead the nation was her rookie season where she finished second) … Graduated as the NCAA career (648) and single-season (192) leader in steals … A member of the school’s 1,000-point club … Became the second player in NCAA history to score 1,000 points, collect 500 rebounds, dish out 500 assists and record at least 500 steals in a career … Schools all-time leader in assists … Recorded nine triple-doubles setting the school single-season record with five as a senior … A two-time First-Team Academic All-SLC Selection.
Atiim Browne (Men’s Basketball, 1990-94)
Four-year letterwinner … A 1994 All-Sun Belt Conference selection … Currently ranked sixth all-time in school history with 1,592 points … LU all-time leader in assists (641) … School’s all-time leader in steals (216) … Scored a career-high 33 points as a senior against Western Kentucky … Holds two of the top three single-season assist marks in school history … Played in 113 games during his career … Averaged 14.1 points, 5.7 assists and 1.9 steals per game in a Cardinals’ uniform … One of the top free throw shooters in program history going to the line 575 times in his career and converting 79.5 percent of his attempts.
Eric Cammack (Baseball, 1995-97)
Three-year letterwinner … Helped guide the Cardinals to the 1995 Sun Belt Tournament title and a berth in the NCAA Midwest Regionals … A 1997 ABCA All-America and 1997 First-Team All-Sun Belt … Named the 1997 Harold Kincaid Award winner (given each year to LU’s top pitcher) … A 1997 MLB 13th-Round Draft selection by the New York Mets … Pitched for the Mets in 2000 … Posted a 16-11 (.593) overall record in 20 career starts … Used primarily as a reliever during his junior season … Recorded 193 strike outs in 196.1 innings of work … Posted a career 3.48 ERA following a junior season that saw him allow just 15 earned runs (2.15 ERA in 1997).
Collin DeLome (Baseball, 2005-07)
A three-time All-Southland Conference selection … Named 2006 Southland Player and Hitter of the Year, hitting .367 (with 89 hits) … His 89 hits were the third best single-season total at LU … Recorded a 17-game hit streak at Lamar … Finished third all-time in runs, first all-time in triples and top 10 all-time in RBI’s … Named to the 2005 SLC All-Tournament team … Selected 171st overall (Fifth Round) by the Houston Astros advancing to Triple A ball.
Clay Hensley (Baseball, 2002)
Guided the Cardinals to 36 wins and a Southland Conference Tournament title in 2002 … Led team to a berth in the NCAA Championships – Austin Regional … Set an LU single-game record with 17 strikeouts against UTA in the first round of the Southland tournament … Set single-season program record with 127 strikeouts (in 100 innings pitched) … Named 2002 Southland Conference Tournament MVP … Posted an 8-6 (.571) record with a 2.97 earned run average … Received the 2002 Harold Kinkaid Award … Served as a starter and reliever at the Major League level, with the majority of his time spent with the San Diego Padres … Won a World Series title as a member of the San Francisco Giants.
Dawie van der Walt (Men’s Golf, 2004-07)
Three-time PING All-American … A 2007 First-Team PING All-America selection … Guided the Cardinals to back-to-back Southland Conference crowns … The 2007 SLC Individual Champion … A three-time first-team All-Southland Conference honoree … Named 2007 SLC Golfer of the Year … The 2005 SLC Freshman of the Year … Guided the Cardinals to their highest team finish in program history just missing a national title by recording a third-place finish at the 2007 NCAA Championships … It was one of two top-10 national finishes for the Cardinals during van der Walt’s career.
