Man Steals From School District
An Orange, Texas man has pleaded guilty to theft from the Trinidad Independent School District, announced Eastern District of Texas U.S. Attorney Damien M. Diggs. Brandon Delane Looney, 38, pleaded guilty on May 15, 2024, to theft from a program receiving federal funds while serving as business manager for Trinidad ISD. Federal law makes it a crime for someone to steal from an organization receiving more than $10,000 in federal funds annually. An Orange, Texas man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for drug trafficking and firearms violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney Damien M. Diggs today. The Orangefield Bobcat baseball team is one of only five teams left in the area still playing ball. The Bobcats will play Diboll in the third round in a best of three matchup. Game One will be at Lamar University on Friday at 7pm and then Gms. 2/3 will start at 4pm on Saturday in Lufkin. Both the Bobcats and the Lumberjacks have had recent success in the playoffs. Tuesday morning the Orange City Council had a decision to make on a new logo for the city. The city's marketing department narrowed the logo suggestions from a company called Marketing Alliance down to two. Council did not waste much time, picking Option One. The logo will replace the "small town charm" the city has used for 16 years. It was also swearing in day as Mayor Larry Spears and new councilman Matt Chandler were sworn in by Judge Jim Sharon Bearden. Both ran unopposed in May.
