Doris Jane Green, 84, of Hemphill, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. She was born on May 28, 1939, in Orange, Texas, to Lloyd Ellis and Fern Peet Ellis.
Doris was a beloved member of the Hemphill community, having been a Sabine County resident since the late 1980s. She was a native of Orange, Texas, and a member of the Eastern Star.
In her professional life, Doris served as a school bus driver for Little Cypress-Mauriceville schools for many years before transitioning to become the Driver’s Education teacher for Region 5 schools.
Doris had a passion for various hobbies, including playing Bingo, gardening, canning vegetables, hunting, fishing, and sewing. She cherished her time outdoors and found joy in these activities.
Doris is survived by her daughters, Lana Risinger of San Augustine and Marian Slavinsky and husband, Frank, of Scottsdale, Arizona; brother, James McGill of Orange; sister, Ginger Ellis of Orange; grandchildren, Logan Holbrook and wife, Kelly, Lindsey Holbrook, Kimber Maddux and husband, Joshua, and Chelsea Slavinsky; and great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Miles, and Laytin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Fern Ellis; husband, Walter Green; sisters, Helen Robinson and Fay Williams; and son-in-law, Rory Risinger.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Doris’s life will be held at a later date.
Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill, Texas, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
