Weekly Fishing Report Week of June 5, 2024 Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn are full of water and Sabine Lake is seeing a lot of freshwater from the runoff. Here are the fishing reports for this week. FRESHWATER Sam RayburnGOOD. Water stained; 78 degrees; 5.56 feet above pool. The water is off-colored with floating debris. Bass are scattered from flooded bushes and grass. Gates Opened To Four Feet
We've had several "flooding events" that has made the Sabine River Authority open the gates but for the first time this year, the gates were opened up to four feet on Wednesday. KOGT.com reported on Tuesday that the gates were opened to two feet but on Wednesday they reported opening the gates to three feet and then Wednesday afternoon opened all 11 gates to four feet. The total release is now 57,524 cfs. The elevation at Toledo Bend when they opened the gates to four feet was 173.32. John Bevel Laird, age 89, of Lumberton, TX, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024. He was born in Orange, TX, on July 26, 1934, to Andrew Buford Laird and Helen Sophia Nelson; and raised by his grandmother Bertha Nelson or "Ma Nelson" as everyone called her. John attended and graduated from the West Orange Stark "WOS" schools and joined the Army soon after. After his service in the military, he travelled north to pan for gold in Alaska, but then found his true work in 1957 with AT&T. This is our second update for our annual Coaches on the Move. A few interesting additions as Orangefield's Rebekah Ragsdale is joining a very short list of coaches who head coach more than one sport. Ragsdale was announced as the new volleyball coach of the Bobcats and she's been the softball coach there for a number of years. Also Vidor softball coach Nikki Trahan is stepping back from being the head coach and will switch with assistant Kellyn Robertson. Heavy Haul Comes Thru Town
Passenger vehicles were running through neighborhoods Wednesday trying to get around another "heavy load" heading to the new Golden Triangle Polymers plant. We're told a "distillation column" made its way down MLK and Strickland in Pinehurst and Orange before reaching the plant.
