Gilmer Coach To Texas
Jeff Traylor, the former head coach and athletics director at Gilmer High School, has been named tight ends and special teams coach at The University of Texas. Traylor was Gilmer's head coach for the past 15 seasons (2000-14), amassing three state championships (2004, '09 '14) and a 175-26 overall record (.871). He also led GHS to state runner-up finishes in 2007 and 2012, along with 12 district titles. Orangefield softball preview - Last season the Orangefield Lady Bobcats were district champions. Coach Amy McLaughlin has many of the girls back from that team, and she says they all have been working hard to do it again. Seniors Ashton Gautreaux, Kylie Bradley, Katelyn Dickerson, and Baileigh Perkins are returning to the Lady Bobcats. Juniors Haley Fontenot, Maleah Saucedo, and sophomore Lauren Stout are also back. Thursday: On February 12th the Orangefield Powerlifting team competed in the LCM Quad Meet. In the boy’s division finishing 1st were Austin Moore (1410lbs) in the 181’s and Adam Jacobs (1240lbs) in the 242’s. Finishing 2nd were Cameron Guillot in the 165’s and Aaron Galitz in the SHW division. Finishing 3rd were Shayne Arceneaux in the 198’s and Juan Padilla in the SHW. The West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs have a new coach in Joseph Viator. Having served on the staff of the Mustangs’ football team, Viator brings a winning attitude to the softball program. Coach Viator identifies some Lady Mustangs back from last year. Their pitcher will be Madison Neal a junior. The catcher will be sophomore Elicia Barlow. Views of the riveted steel from different angles show an engineered art form that few appreciate. Paris has the Eiffel Tower. Orange County has the Rainbow Bridge. Jury Awards Family
A federal jury has decided Orange County should pay $2,617,000 to the family of a man who died in the county jail in October 2011. The jury returned the verdict today after a week of testimony during a trial in Beaumont. 41-year-old Robert Montano died in the Orange County Jail five days after he was arrested for public intoxication. Attorneys for Montano's family told the jury he had been held in a medical cell for five days without food or water. Man Shoots Himself
A 53-year-old man from Vidor was sent to a Beaumont hospital Thursday evening after he was shot in the leg when a pistol fell out of his pocket. Orange police report the man did not have a concealed handgun license. At this time, no charges have been filed. Police were called at 6:25 p.m. Thursday to a convenience store at 7411 South Highway 62 at the Interstate 10 intersection. Officer Justin Kirkpatrick reported that the man had bought ice and was at his car breaking up the ice to put into a cooler. The man had a .38 caliber Derringer pistol in his jacket pocket.
