The West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs have a new coach in Joseph Viator. Having served on the staff of the Mustangs’ football team, Viator brings a winning attitude to the softball program. Coach Viator identifies some Lady Mustangs back from last year. Their pitcher will be Madison Neal a junior. The catcher will be sophomore Elicia Barlow. A key to the Lady Mustangs’ defense is Mar Lesia Davis a senior. Viator says he is glad to have her back. A new Lady Mustang has filled the hot corner for Viator. Sidnee Lewis was a pleasant surprise for Coach Viator at third base because he was looking for somebody to cover that corner. Speed is the name of the game at West Orange-Stark, so Viator is preaching base running to the Lady Mustangs. Viator indicates he does have a power hitter in Neal, but otherwise he is encouraging the Lady Mustangs to hit the ball on the ground and use their speed to get on base and running once there. Pitching is always a key in softball, and Coach Viator thinks he may have a pretty good pitcher in Madison Neal. Viator tells, “She can really bring the heat, we’re working on her accuracy, if she can put the ball in the strike zone we got a good chance to win ball games.” Coach Viator is looking for a turnaround in the fortunes of the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs this season. He is looking for the Lady Mustangs to be very competitive. Viator has told the girls he is not here to lose games or just be another practice for the other district opponents when they play West Orange-Stark, and Viator is looking forward to the challenge and a good season.
