Junior College All-American Raven Cole (LCM) will continue playing softball after two seasons at LSU-Eunice. She's received a "full ride" to the University of North Alabama, a Division II school in Florence, Alabama. Cole will also be playing this summer. Local Man Dies After Jail Incident
On Tuesday, June 16, 2015, around 2:10 p.m., an inmate in the Orange County Jail was found attempting to commit suicide by hanging himself. Corrections and nursing staff were able to perform life saving measures until first responders from the Orange Fire Department and an Acadian Ambulance arrived on scene. He was revived and found to have a heartbeat. He was then taken by ambulance first to the Baptist Hospital in Orange, and then later to Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, where he remained overnight. Orange police Tuesday night arrested a man with bolt cutters in his pocket near a cut fence at Tractor Supply on Interstate 10. Captain Robert Enmon reported a burglar alarm sounded at 11:19 p.m. and officers went to the store. The captain saw a man walking in the parking lot and the man told him he was walking to a nearby hotel. That's when Lieutenant J.E. Davis came up and handcuffed the man. Enmon said Davis found a hole cut in the security fence where gas-powered tools were stored. Police found a $400 tiller had been dragged across the parking lot. Food Inspections
June 17, 2015 Restaurants and food businesses were looking good for the summer as County Health Inspector James Scales had high rates for inspections during the first part of June. He inspected 14 businesses and gave perfect scores to the Vidor City Pool, Cool Breeze on Texas Avenue in Bridge City, and Holiday Inn Express in Vidor. Six had scores in the 90s and two in the upper 80s. The lowest score was an 80 and went to the Sonic Drive-In on 16th Street in Orange. New Bridge on Thomas Rd
A half million dollar construction project will cause a temporary road closure of Thomas Road at the bridge about 1,000 feet east of FM 1442 starting next week. Orange County Road and Bridge Engineer Clark Slacum reported work on the project is expected to last about five months. During construction the bridge will be closed to all traffic. Detour signs will be installed to assist traffic in getting the closure.
