On Friday, August 14, 2015 at approximately 12:00 AM Deputy James Hollon of the Newton County Sheriffs Dept. conducted a traffic stop in the Hartburg area. The driver, Joel Stipeleovich of Orange, nor the passenger, Sarah Moehle of Orange, possessed a valid driver’s license to operate the vehicle. The registered owner of the vehicle arrived on scene and gave Deputy Hollon verbal consent to search the vehicle before she took possession of it. Police Have Suspects
Orange police have two suspects in burglaries at car dealerships and have recovered the stolen items in one of them. Detective Captain Cliff Hargrave said employees at Sabine River Ford on Green Avenue called police about 2 Thursday afternoon because they discovered that a laptop computer. The computer was taken from the service department sometime between 12 and 1 p.m. Detectives identified a suspect from surveillance videos at the dealership. Orange, IP Wrap Up Deal
The Orange City Council Friday morning finished all the legal steps for the annexation of the International Paper containerboard mill. The economic development contract was also approved on the final reading. The company requested to be annexed earlier in the year in exchange for economic development incentives that include not paying the city’s 1.5 percent sales tax on items sold from the mill. Bridge Cuts Ribbon, But No Cars Yet
A ribbon cutting ceremony Friday morning in Bridge City celebrated the completion of construction on the swing bridge over Cow Bayou on Highway 87. Bridge City Mayor Kirk Roccaforte had the honor of cutting the red ribbon signifying the bridge will soon be open to traffic. Those attending the ceremony had the special opportunity to actually experience the bridge swing open.
