The road to the post season for the Bridge City Cardinals took a detour last week at Jasper as the Bulldogs pulled out a heart stopping 48-47 comeback win against the Cardinals. Bridge City Coach Dwayne DuBois believes the Cardinals will comeback from the loss, and they must do it quickly with the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears the opponent this Friday. Newly‐formed GetDaNet Fishing Club held it first tournament Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Toledo Bend Reservoir. A heavy cloud cover and a front line to the east threatened rain, but blew away to the west quickly. Despite an east wind, the weather turned out beautiful for a day on the water; but the early front wreaked havoc on some of the fishing efforts. Michael Harlan Knox, 69, of Orange passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont. Mike was born on April 8, 1946 in Livingston, Texas to parents Iva Agnes (Kee) and Harlan Lee Knox. He had lived in the Orange area for 55 plus years and was a member of McDonald Memorial Baptist Church. Mike had worked at Lamar University of Orange as a Head Security Guard for many years. Fire Wednesday Morning
A fire broke out in the ceiling of the Dollar Tree store in a Pinehurst shopping center Wednesday morning. It was reported a few minutes after 7 a.m. The Pinehurst Volunteer Fire Department kept the fire to the store, though some damage is at the adjacent H&R Block office. Damage hasn't been determined at the adjacent Chinese buffet. J.Scott's Aflorist had smoke inside and firefighters put up a fan to blow out the smoke. Owner Scott Hasty by 8:15 a.m. had not been able to determine damage. Orange Eyeing Improvements
Sunset Park on 16th Street will be getting new playground equipment. Orange City Council Tuesday approved spending $41,000 for the items from PlayPower LT Farmington. Public Works Director Jim Wolf said the playground will be similar to the one by the Shangri La parking lot on Twentieth Street. The council approved several large purchases that were included in the new budget year, which started October 1. Money for the Sunset Park playground is coming from federal Community Development Block Grants because the park is in a low-income area.
