Jesse Lee Hughes, 36, of Orange, was greeted by the Angels and taken up to his Heavenly Home on Friday, October 23, 2015 at his residence following an illness. Jesse was born on March 1, 1979 in Orange, Texas to his parents, Delbert Eugene Hughes and Myrtle Ann (Johnson) Hughes. He was a lifelong resident of Orange, he graduated from West Orange - Stark High School and he work as a member of the multiple task team with whatever was needed at O.C.A.R.C. in Orange. Barbara Thomasine Keller, 76, of Fort Ann,NY passed away peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015, at her home. Born July 4, 1939, in Orange, Texas, she was the third child of the late Thomas and Ruth (Peet) Mendoza. Barbara graduated from Lutcher Stark High School. She was married in Texas and then moved to New York, where she started a family and lived in Fort Ann for more than 45 years. She was a loving wife and mother of four and raised her children in Fort Ann. She worked and retired from USCI/BARD after approximately 15 years of service. Golden Apple Winner
The West Orange – Cove CISD District-wide PTA held a “Golden Apple Award Winner” luncheon for the West Orange - Stark Academic Alternative Center this week. The campus reported 100 percent of school staff members have joined the WOCCISD District-wide PTA for the 2015-2016 school year. The PTA also provided a basket of snacks for the teacher lunchroom, as well as needed school supplies for the campus. Safe Schools Week
Local volunteer and professional firefighters Aaron McNeil, Daniel Eaves and Joe Pelaez demonstrated and provided hands on experiences with the fire trucks and equipment recently at Orangefield High School. The men presented during Ms. Bridget Trawhon’s professional communications and Mr. Kevin Credeur’s choir classes. The purpose of the visit was to discuss fire prevention, recruit volunteers, promote career opportunities, and enforce Texas Safe Schools Week. Down by seven at the half the Bridge City Cardinals made a few adjustments and in the second half scored 28 points, 21 in the third quarter, to hand the high flying Falcons their first loss in district and into a second place tie with BC and Silsbee at 3-1. Jasper beat LCM to improve to 4-0. The two teams combined for almost 1000 yds of offense but it was a defensive play that sealed the win for the Cards. West Orange-Stark used another balanced attack offensively to beat Hamshire-Fannett 35-0 Friday. WOS rushed for 210 yards, led by Jeremiah Shaw's 85 yds. on 10 carries and a score. QB Jack Dallas threw for 180 on 8-16 passing with three TD's (Shaw, Aric Cormier, Thomas Wallace) and one interception. He also ran for a touchdown. The Jasper Bulldogs dealt the Battlin’ Bears playoff hopes a serious blow Friday night with a 34-14 victory over Little Cypress-Mauriceville. Following a first-quarter stalemate in which neither teams offense could find its footing, Jasper’s high-powered offense, led by running back Decorian Holmes, took control of the game in the second quarter with 21 consecutive points and never looked back.
