Fishing Tournament Results
GetDaNet Fishing Club held its January tournament on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Toledo Bend with weigh-in at Six Mile Public Boat Ramp. Windy, cold conditions put a damper on most of the good bites, but it wasn’t enough to dampen the spirits of club participants. Partners Chris Baggett and Mike Moore once again topped the standings with a winning bag of five (5) fish weighing 12.76 lbs. The pair also lead the Big Bass portion of the event with Moore turning in a 3.84-lb. 1st-place specimen and Baggett submitting a similar 3.60-lb. 2nd-place fish. Gentry Passes
Mike Gentry, a longtime Orangefield educator who worked his way up from coach to superintendent died Sunday at a Beaumont hospital. He had been living in Vidor and served as a consultant for the District 24-4A university interscholastic league. Gentry was first a coach for Orangefield and later became the high school principal. Louise Batchman, age 62 of Deweyville, Texas, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2016 in Beaumont, Texas. Services will be at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 18, 2016 at Dorman Funeral Home Chapel. Commissioners Meet Tuesday
The Commissioners Court will hold its regular weekly meeting Tuesday afternoon. There is a workshop scheduled for Tuesday morning during which the Court will discuss the payment and processing of bills by the county. The workshop was suggested according to County Judge Brint Carlton because the county’s credit cards for gasoline purchases were rejected for the second time in three months because of a late payment of the bill. Jack Thomas Denison was born March 8, 1926 in Florida and died December 24, Christmas Eve 2015. He lived in Asheville, North Carolina and Los Angeles, California. Tom was commissioned as an officer in the Navy after completing his bachelor degree at UCLA. He was stationed on the LST 596 during the war and shortly thereafter. After finishing his Doctorate Degree in Chemistry from UCLA he joined E.I. Du Pont de Nemours as a physical chemist in Wilmington Delaware.
