Quibodeaux Sentenced
A 67-year-old man from Little Cypress will spend 25 years in state prison without parole after pleading guilty to continuous sexual abuse of a young child. 260th District Judge Buddie Hahn pronounced the sentence Wednesday afternoon to Eugene Quibodeaux. Assistant District Attorney Tom Kelley said Quibodeaux pleaded guilty to the felony charge on December 4 and opted to have the judge give the punishment. Kelley said Quibodeaux had no previous convictions. An Orange County grand jury indicted Quibodeaux in June. 16th Store Robbed, Clerk Injured
A convenience store clerk was cut above his right eye after being hit in the head with a pistol during an armed robbery Tuesday night. Orange police report the Star Stop at 1402 16th Street, next to Walgreen's, was robbed by three men about 11 p.m. Two of the men had handguns. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the clerk said he wanted to get private medical attention for the injury. The robbers stole cash and ran away. The robbers were described as black men. Orange County food businesses were spiffed up in the first part of January. All but one of the businesses scored A's in the health and the lowest score was a B+. County Health Inspector James Scales went to 16 businesses during the period. Four earned perfect scores and the lowest score was an 89. Scales also made two pre-opening inspections with no scores. Pinehurst Gas Cards
Orange County has had problems with its gasoline credit cards recently, and the City of Pinehurst has been looking for different credit cards to purchase gasoline as well. Pinehurst City Administrator Robbie Hood said their problem with Shell Oil was customer service related. The problem for the City of Pinehurst was receiving the proper cards for its employees. Hood indicated the issue was getting cards issued from Shell that did require pin numbers to be put in to acquire fuel so that the city could track fuel purchases better. Two incumbent Orange City Council members filed for re-election Wednesday, the first day of filing for the May 7 election. Mary McKenna is seeking her second three-year term for Single Member District 4. Bill Mello, who was first elected to the council in 2010, is running again for the At-Large Position 5. Bridge City will be getting a new mayor in May because Mayor Kirk Roccaforte has served the maximum amount of time allowed under the city's term limits.
