The new community group sponsoring the Field of Plenty gardens is postponing the 'raise the bed' event on Saturday, April 30 because of mud at the site. However, organizer Sandra Hoke said if rain is not falling Saturday morning at 8, volunteers will be there working on the grounds. Field of Plenty is on about two acres on Wickard Drive behind Orange Christian Services on Park Avenue. The plan for Saturday was to establish 10 raised beds out of cinder blocks for planting. Former WOC Schools/Admin Sold
The West Orange-Cove school board has sold the old administration building, Oates Elementary and the former middle school on Western Avenue in West Orange. All three have been closed and unused. The non-profit group Brazoria County Alternative Academy bought Oates and the Western Avenue property and was the only bidder. Oates, at 900 Newton Street in West Orange, brought a price of $13,000.
