Patsy Burton Miller, 67, of Orange, Texas, passed away on October 15, 2016, in Houston, Texas. Funeral services are pending under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home. Born in Orange, Texas, on June 15, 1949, she was the daughter of Preston Burton and Mary Harmon. Patsy was a lifelong member of Old First Orange Baptist Church, where she played the piano. Marker Honors West End Park
The legend of Babe Ruth hitting a home run at the old West End Park ball field is a myth. But Hall of Fame inductees Branch Rickey, Rogers Hornsby and Connie Mack were at the park, along with the first commissioner of baseball, Judge Kennesaw Mountain Landis. West End Park had a covered wooden grandstand built for the St. Louis Cardinals to have spring training camp in Orange for the 1921 season. Three straight losses since the open week have the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears down, but not out. Coach Randy Crouch says the Bears are still motivated to get better in the remaining district football games. Crouch believes LC-M will regroup knowing three district contests remain and will press forward for those games. Neighborhoods Covered In Black Powder
Suzy Wallace, who lives in Cypress Bayou I subdivision, woke up Saturday morning to find the black powder was back. It covered the plants, the patio furniture and even the trash can. After touching the trash can, her fingers were black. She and her neighbors, who also had the powdery film, say it came from the nearby Orion Engineered Carbons plant on Echo Road. Police Reports Include Unresponsive Child
Orange police and Texas Child Protective Services are investigating injuries to a baby girl Sunday night. Police were called to the apartments at 3819 Meeks Drive at 9 p.m. Sunday because of the child being unresponsive. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the girl was younger than a year. She was first taken to a local hospital and then to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. Captain Enmon said she was in stable condition Monday. The Deweyville Pirates are putting the last two weeks against state ranked teams behind them. Coach Lance Dale says the emphasis with the players will be the next two weeks for Deweyville. After competing in the first 2 levels of competition, Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School Choir Director Nikki Harris announced that there will be 24 choir students representing LCM High School in the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All Region Choir Concert on November 1.
