Orange police are investigating an armed robbery of a man who gave two others a ride and they stole his money. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the victim was also beaten, but the injuries were not serious. The man called police about 9:30 p.m. from 16th Street at MacArthur Drive. He told officers he went to the apartment complex at 111 Pine Avenue about 7:30 p.m. to meet a man he knows. When the victim arrived, the man he knows another man was also there. A thrilling victory last week by Bridge City over Silsbee has the Cardinals still undefeated in district. Coach Dwayne DuBois thinks Bridge City can build on the win last week. DuBois admits the players can walk a little taller after a win over a quality team like Silsbee. Senior Night For Bears
A week ago the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears appeared to be on the outside looking in at the District 10-4A playoff picture. Now after a solid win over Huffman, the Bears are right in the middle of the playoff draw. Coach Randy Crouch is proud of his players and coaches. The Bears handled adversity well especially in the third quarter when the Falcons staged a comeback. Last week the Orangefield Bobcats clinched a spot in the playoffs for the fourth straight season. Coach Josh Smalley indicates the goal now is to improve the Bobcats’ seeding in the post season. Win For Pirates Equals Postseason
Two district wins were needed for the Deweyville Pirates to make the post season this year. Last week Deweyville got that important first one, and Coach Lance Dale is getting the Pirates ready for the next step. Man Stabbed On Cove Dr.
A 25-year-old man from Orange is in a Beaumont hospital with stab wounds and a 25-year-old woman is the Orange County Jail on a charge of family violence-aggravated assault. Orange Police Captain Charles Stephenson said the stabbing happened on Cove Drive. Police were called at 12:46 Wednesday morning to a house in the 1000 block of Ruby Lane. Commissioners Hold Town Hall Meeting
Orange County’s Town Hall meeting appeared to be a success Tuesday night. Citizens filled the Commissioners Courtroom for an opportunity to question, vent, or just talk to the elected leaders of county government. Over a dozen citizens commented to the Commissioners Court during the two-hour Town Hall gathering. One of the first to speak was Bill Bradley of Pinehurst. He has lived in Orange County since 1955. The first organizational meeting of the Planning Commission of the City of Pinehurst was held Tuesday morning. Liz Hogan the chairperson of the newly appointed commission presented a mission statement which was well received by the commission members and was approved as a preliminary mission statement. Hogan appointed Dave Derosier as the Vice-Chairperson of the commission. Laurah Rodgers volunteered and was approved to serve as the commission’s secretary. Voters in the Deweyville area will have to write-in someone for the Newton County Precinct 4 race. The Newton County Clerk's Office reports three candidates have filed as write-in for the spot. Deweyville ISD, OFISD Early Voting Dates
Orangefield ISD had 15 early voters on Monday even though one of the two candidates for the only uncontested race does not want to run. The ballots have incumbent Dr. Ronald Risinger running for Place 6 against Chris Wagstaff. After filing, Wagstaff asked to withdraw, but did not submit the withdrawal form in time to meet the state deadline. The board has three incumbents running with no opponents.
