A thrilling victory last week by Bridge City over Silsbee has the Cardinals still undefeated in district. Coach Dwayne DuBois thinks Bridge City can build on the win last week. DuBois admits the players can walk a little taller after a win over a quality team like Silsbee. He points out the players may have thought they could beat a quality team, but moving forward the Cardinals know they can now.
Bridge City plays Navasota Friday night. The Rattlers have another running back in Keyondrick Philio which DuBois says the Cardinals must work to slow down. The coach compares him closely to Calvin Tyler with Silsbee and Chris Winters at LC-M. Navasota operates from the Spread and has several talented players to get the ball to if the Cardinals stop Philio. DuBois expects, “Friday night to be another exciting football game.”
Navasota tackle Jordan Jefferson anchors the Rattlers’ defense. Though just a freshman he weighs in at about 280 pounds. Linebackers Serna Trey and Payne Gessner are both very active. Jabril Hunter is another quality athlete for the Rattlers with size and quickness. Coach DuBois evaluates the Navasota defense as one of the best in the district. Navasota’s new head coach is Patrick Goodman who previously served as the Rattlers’ defensive coordinator. DuBois admits Bridge City has never faced the Rattlers, but knows they will be well prepared and are very talented.
Bridge City is undefeated in district, but Navasota is just one game behind. DuBois provides the keys for the Cardinals to stay on top of the district standings. Coach DuBois points to repeating the same intensity shown by the Cardinals in the Silsbee game, avoiding turnovers, winning the kicking game, and controlling the clock with the Bridge City running game. The coach does believe the Cardinals can play better on defense and is looking for improvement there.
Friday night in Bridge City it is the Cardinals taking on the Navasota Rattlers in another important district game. The kickoff will be at 7:00 PM.
