Thru Sunday 19,181 early votes have been cast in Orange County for the Nov. 5 General Election. 5612 have voted in Vidor, 5166 in Orange, 5006 at the Airport, and 2597 in Mauriceville. Driver Identified in Fatal Rollover Crash
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers are investigating a fatal crash on Tulane Road, at the intersection of Harmon Road, that occurred Friday, October 25, 2024. The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 10:37 p.m., a Dodge Caravan was traveling west. It is reported that the driver failed to negotiate a curve properly and entered the ditch, where it struck a concrete culvert and overturned. The LCM/BC match up between two undefeated district teams was worth the hype as they met at Battlin Bear Stadium. LCM would punch it in first on a Jonah Fuller 5 yd. run and a Isaiah Watzlavik kick. The first five days of Early Voting for the Nov. 5 Election is in the books and Orange County is on pace to beat the high set in the 2020 General Election. After five days, with seven remaining, the total of in-person and mail-in votes is 15571. The early voting total for the 2020 Presidential Election was 30490 and the total, plus Election Day, was 36079. Fire Safety Week
Saturday the West Orange Fire Dept. was at WalMart as part of Fire Safety Week. The brought their trucks for the kids to see as well as valuable information about the importance of having smoke detectors and fire extinguishers in your home or business. Fire Chief David Roberts also talked to people who may be interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter. Roberts said it does require training and many times they can provide assistance to getting a future firefighter trained and important qualifications like CPR Training. Community Helps Fireman
A fundraiser was held Saturday for longtime firefighter and local singer Shon Branham, who is battling cancer. Branham was diagnosed with Stage 4 squamous cell carcinoma, which is a type of cancer that can affect the skin, the lining of organs, and the respiratory and digestive tracts. It was held at the American Legion Hall in Orange. There were lunch plates, live entertainment, and an auction. Branham is living on VA Disability and the fundraiser helped with his expenses. The Vidor Pirates are on a winning streak. Vidor celebrated homecoming on Friday night and came away with a 55-17 victory over the visiting Liberty Panthers. The win is the second-consecutive triumph for the Pirates over a District 10-4A Division 1 foe and its third overall victory of the season. Liberty started off the scoring and a 3-0 lead with a 43-yard field goal by kicker Diego Diaz-Ramirez after a penalty kept the opening kickoff return being a touchdown for the Panthers.
