After thirty-four years, long time United Way of Orange County Executive Director, Linn Cardner, is retiring. With the announcement of her retirement, an extensive search was conducted to find her replacement. Michael Stephenson, Ward 4 City Councilman in Vidor, turned in his resignation, effective January 1, 2017. He's leaving with one year left on his term. Accident Stalls Traffic Monday Morning (update)
A couple from Orange escaped serious injury this morning when the pickup truck they were driving and the camper trailer being pulled turned over off Interstate 10. The accident was about 8:30 Monday morning during rain on the eastbound outside lane past the 16th Street overpass. The truck and trailer flipped on different sides in the muddy grass off the main highway. Traffic on the interstate was slowed for about 45 minutes as two Gilbeaux's tow trucks had to turn the vehicles upright and then remove them. Merritt Won’t Run Again
Eight elected officials received their oaths of office Sunday in the 128th District Courtroom at the Orange County Courthouse. One of those sworn in was Orange County Sheriff Keith Merritt. During his acceptance speech at the ceremony Sunday Merritt announced this would be his final four-year term as sheriff. After more than 30 years in law enforcement Merritt said it’s time to go.
