After 34 years of dedicated service, Linn Cardner will be retiring from the United Way of Orange County. Linn Cardner is a graduate of The University of Texas with a BBA degree. She received numerous honors while at the University including being the first women president of the College of Business Student Council and being chosen an Outstanding Student a junior, an honor usually reserved for a Senior. Curley John Myers Sr., 84, died Saturday, January 21st, 2017 in Beaumont, TX. A native of Estherwood, LA, he was a longtime resident of Orange, TX. Two Charged With Murder
Two men from Orange have been charged with murder in connection with the December shooting death of a man outside a Port Arthur motel. Antonio Richard was arrested on January 9 in Oakdale, Louisiana. Iterreious Simien surrendered to officials at the Orange County Jail on January 15. The charges were filed in Jefferson County in connection with the shooting death of 29-year-old Rasheed Edwards of Port Arthur. He was shot outside the Baymont Inn and Suites, 3801 Texas Highway 73 in Port Arthur the night of December 30. A 46-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured early Saturday morning when he fell off the Harley-Davidson while traveling on Highway 87 South near Cypresswood Drive. Orange police report Joseph Pikus of Orange was taken by Acadian Ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont with incapacitating injuries. According to the accident report, he was not wearing a helmet. Police were called about 2:40 a.m. Saturday to the 1800 block of Highway 87 South. Local Man In Motorcycle Accident
A Vidor man was seriously injured when his motorcycle crashed Monday morning on US Highway 96 in Jasper County. Sergeant Stephanie Davis with the Texas Department of Public Safety reported that at about 11:00 AM David Holland, age 48, was driving his Suzuki motorcycle northbound on Highway 96 about two miles south of Buna. Man Found Deceased In Apartment
On Monday, Jan. 23 at 12:23 P.M. Officer J. Trussell of the Pinehurst Police Department responded to Sussex Manor Apartments located at 3000 Macarthur Drive in Pinehurst in reference to a death investigation. Officers located a white male deceased within the apartment. Orange Once Had Hospital Downtown
Orange is now learning to adapt to living without a hospital, but 95 years ago the city was using one of the most modern medical centers in the country. Frances Ann Lutcher Hospital opened in the summer of 1921. It was built as a gift to the city by the widow of the lumber millionaire Henry Jacob Lutcher and named in her honor. In honor of the new hospital, Mrs. Lutcher had a booklet printed on slick paper with more than a dozen black and white photographs of the hospital, grounds and two-story house built for the nurses studying at the hospital's school.
