Husband Says Shooting Was An Accident
Orange police are investigating the shooting death of a 24-year-old woman as a homicide and Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the woman's 52-year-old husband, Robert Hand, is a suspect. Police said Megan Smith died of a gunshot wound to the back after being taken by ambulance to a Beaumont hospital. The shooting was reported at 5:48 p.m. Hand told police it was an accident. A proposal to name former Orange mayor Brown Claybar to the city's Civil Service Commission failed Tuesday morning after City Councilmember Annette Pernell said she wants more citizens to serve. She complained that the open position was not posted on the city's website, though openings for other appointed board positions have been. The Bobcats (9-7) held a 3-0 lead before Jasper cut it to 3-2 going into the 6th. OF was able to add two insurance runs on a Karlye Bramblett double while pitcher Kaylee Ancelot finished off the side in the seventh for the complete game win. County Judge Brint Carlton has appointed Missy Pillsbury as the new Emergency Management Coordinator (EMC) for Orange County. The appointment comes with the resignation of Charlie Cox as the EMC. Cox said he regretfully submitted his resignation last week to Judge Carlton. A sick family member has caused Cox to step down from his position with the county so he could help care for the family member.
