Fast food wrappers and beer cans line streets in Orange. On Tenth Street in the Old Orange Historic District, a pile of broken cheap furniture along with a commode, sat along the street for days. The West Orange-Stark Mustangs saw their season end Thursday night with a 4-2 loss to Robinson in a game played at Magnolia High School. Rocket pitcher Dru Dziedzic kept the Mustangs (27-4) off balance pitching a one hitter thru five innings. Robinson took a 3-0 lead after two innings, and added a fourth run in the in the sixth. The Orange County Texas Exes have awarded four scholarships to local 2017 high school graduates attending UT Austin this fall, totaling $9,750. City Gives Incentives To New Bank
The new First State Bank plans a $2.3 million building and will have 25 full-time jobs. Tuesday, the city of Orange Economic Development Corporation board and the city council approved up to $175,000 to spend on infrastructure for the project. Damon Vacek, a founder of the new bank, told the EDC board the city's incentives drew them to build within the city limits. EDC Director Jay Trahan said the money will be spent on extending sewer lines and a sewer lift station for the site. In addition, the grant will pay for storm drainage and a retention pond. One Injured In Rollover
A Bridge City woman was injured but a baby in the car was unharmed in a rollover accident Tuesday on the Interstate 10 service road. Orange police report the rollover was about 11:30 a.m. in the 3800 block of Lutcher Drive between Tejas Parkway and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Officer B.P. Latiolais said 24-year-old Altonisha Nicole White was driving a Toyota Camry westbound in the inside lane of the road. School trustees in Deweyville have hired a new superintendent to lead the district through the recovery from last year’s devastating flood. Keith Jones has accepted the position and the challenge of guiding the Deweyville schools during this difficult period. Sabine Title Company in downtown Orange has been sold to the largest independent title company in Texas, but it will retain a touch of hometown. Bill Shaddock, who grew up in Orange where his father was a physician, is the owner and CEO of Capital Title of Texas. Signs on the office at 711 West Front Street are up announcing the change. Sabine Title provides legal real estate property title research and title insurance. The company was owned for many years by the late lawyer Lynwood Sanders.
