A man living in the Old Orange Historic District told Orange police someone had stolen two shotguns, a pistol, jewelry and a coin collection from his house. The man went to the police station Thursday morning to report the burglary in the 700 block of Seventh Street. The total amount of the missing items is estimated at $2,100. The guns include a Mossberg .12-gauge pump-action shotgun, a Remington .12-gauge pump-action shotgun and a .22 caliber pistol.
As one man was missing guns, a woman reported finding one later Thursday morning. The woman notified police at 10:55 a.m. that she found a Smith & Wesson Model 10 at the corner of Barkins and Church streets.
Two men broke into the maintenance barn at Sunset Grove Country Club early Thursday morning, but nothing was found to be missing. Orange Patrol Officer C.J. Foreman reported he was called to the club on Sunset Drive about 9:30 Thursday morning. Three padlocks had been cut. Surveillance video showed two men entering at 3:54 a.m. One of the men had a shirt over his face. They left at 4:22 a.m.
Orange police arrested a man and a woman with drugs in a car in the parking lot of Linkwood Apartments Thursday night after someone reported suspicious activity. Officer D.B. Mulhollan said the person who called police had seen people going up to a parked car and getting inside. After a few minutes, the people would get outside of the car and leave.
Officer Mulhollan reported he could smell marijuana when he walked up to the car. The man in the driver’s seat had a “usable amount” of marijuana on the front of his shirt. Police also found plastic baggies, a digital scale and a baggie of marijuana. A woman sitting in the passenger seat had marijuana residue in her handbag along with Xanax pills.
Roderick Demond Simmons of Orange was arrested for Class B misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Mykidra Daniel Williams of Orange was arrested for Class B misdemeanor possession of marijuana and Class A possession of a controlled substance. A man in the back seat was not arrested.
Officer Mulhollan reported a total of 0.66 ounce of marijuana was confiscated along with 30 Xanax pills.
