It’s been another busy week around Newton County.
Last week, we worked a shooting investigation that resulted in two arrests. This investigation remains ongoing.
On Friday, the County Judge issued a burn ban for a period of seven (7) days. Our volunteer fire departments have been extremely busy responding to multiple fires across the county. We ask everyone to please use common sense and refrain from burning during this time.
This morning, Deputy Walters and I were dispatched to a welfare check on County Road 2018 in Newton regarding a male subject sleeping inside a van. During the investigation, we located more than two grams of methamphetamine on the subject. He was taken into custody and transported to the Newton County Jail.
As always, we appreciate the continued support of our citizens, who report things to the Sheriff’s Office. The public is always our biggest eyes and ears. If you need anything this week, give us a shout!
We answered 68 calls for service last week and booked 10 inmates into the jail. We currently have 30 inmates in the following jails: 10 in Newton, 12 in Beauregard Parish and 8 in Jasper County.
