Assault Arrest in the Call Community:
On Tuesday, August 18, 2025, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic disturbance on County Road 3102 in the Call community. Upon arrival, deputies determined the suspect had fled prior to their arrival. Evidence collected at the scene was presented to a judge, who subsequently issued an arrest warrant for Samuel McGallion on charges of assault causes bodily injury-family violence.
On August 19, 2025, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard and Jasper County Precinct 3 Constable Scott Jacks arrived at McGallion’s residence to serve the warrant. McGallion was arrested and subsequently transported to the Newton County Jail.
Newton Burglar Arrested:
On August 20, 2025, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office and the Newton Police Department investigated numerous burglaries in the City of Newton and several in Bon Wier. The suspect in the burglaries was identified as Jacob Paul Wiltz. Newton PD was able to obtain several arrest warrants for Wiltz. On August 21, Wiltz was apprehended at a Jasper motel and subsequently transported to the Newton County Jail.
Fugitive Arrest on Sheppard Road:
On Friday, August 22, 2025, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard and Texas Game Warden Landon Spacek went to 315 Private Road 7820 off Sheppard Road to serve an arrest warrant on Jayson Davis, who was wanted out of Jasper County for possession of a controlled substance (State Jail Felony). Upon arrival at the residence, Davis was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Newton County Jail.
Newton Pursuit:
On Saturday, August 23, 2025, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Newton County Sheriff’s Deputy C.J. Forsythe was standing outside the Newton County Sheriff’s Office when he observed a white Ford F-250 run the stop sign at the intersection of Rusk and Court Streets. Deputy Forsythe observed the vehicle almost run into Stellar Bank before making a turn onto Main Street. The driver of the white Ford F-250 stopped in the middle of Main Street in front of the Newton County Sheriff’s Office and began honking the horn. As Deputy Forsythe tried walking up to the vehicle to check on the welfare of the driver, the vehicle sped off toward S Loop 505. Deputy Forsythe got into his patrol vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the white Ford F-250, however, the driver turned onto Wiess Street and then east on US 190, fleeing Deputy Forsythe in the opposite lane of travel at speeds over 100 miles per hour.
The driver of the vehicle finally stopped on US 190 near County Road 4002, and Deputy Forsythe made contact with the driver, who was identified as Caiden Joseph Walker. Walker refused to get out of the vehicle and was eventually forcefully removed and placed under arrest.
Deputy Forsythe placed Walker in his patrol unit and began speaking with Officer Kevin McGarrahan of the Newton Police Department, who arrived on the scene to assist. As the two were talking, Walker was able to open the door of the patrol unit and exit the vehicle. Walker took several steps away from the patrol unit and was subsequently taken back into custody.
Walker was transported to the Newton County Jail, where he was charged with evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle (SJF), resist arrest, search or transportation (MA), and escape from custody (F3).
Fugitive Arrest in Deweyville:
On Monday, August 25, 2025, at approximately 8:00 a.m., Deputy Brent Sonnier conducted a traffic stop on a moped and made contact with the driver, who was identified as Charles Robert Collins. A driver’s license check of Collins revealed him to be wanted out of Newton County for the offense of Bond Forfeiture on an original charge of driving while license Invalid with previous convictions. Collins was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Newton County Jail without incident.
Calls for Service:
We answered 88 calls for service last week and booked 7 individuals into the Newton County Jail. We currently have 23 inmates housed in the following facilities: 6 in Beauregard Parish, 4 in Jasper, and 13 in Newton.
