
Sheriff’s Report from Sheriff Colton Havard
Motorcycle Pursuit:
On Monday, June 2, 2025, at 6:43 p.m., Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a blue and white Suzuki GSXR 1000 for multiple traffic violations in the Bleakwood
community. The operator of the motorcycle failed to stop, initiating a vehicle pursuit. As the pursuit
continued northbound on State Highway 87 at a high rate of speed, a Newton County Sheriff’s Deputy
and a Newton Police Officer joined to assist. The pursuit continued to the intersection of SH 87 and US
190 in Newton, where the operator of the motorcycle turned west onto US 190. The motorcyclist
continued to evade law enforcement at speeds over 120 mph until reaching the intersection of US 190
and SH 63 in the City of Jasper, where the suspect surrendered without further incident.
The operator of the motorcycle, identified as Alexander Jose Gonzalez-Diaz, was taken into custody
and transported to the Newton County Jail, where he was charged with evading arrest or detention
with a motor vehicle. Gonzalez-Diaz has since been released after posting bond.
Warrant Arrest in Burkeville:
On Thursday, June 5, 2025, deputies with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a
disturbance at a residence on County Road 2096 in Burkeville. Upon arrival, deputies made contact
with a white female, identified as Angela Marie Nelson. During the investigation, deputies determined
that Nelson had an outstanding warrant for her arrest out of Chambers County for bond forfeiture.
Nelson was placed under arrest and transported to the Newton County Jail.
Warrant Arrest in Devil’s Pocket:
On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, Deputies with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office went to the 2000 block of
County Road 4117 in the Devil’s Pocket to serve an arrest warrant for Assault Family Violence. The
arrest stemmed from an incident that occurred on May 16, 2025. Upon arrival, deputies arrested Mark
Shane Jansen and transported him to the Newton County Jail.
Calls for Service:
We answered 79 calls for service last week and booked 8 individuals into the Newton County Jail. We
have 29 inmates housed in the following jails: 7 in Beauregard Parish, 10 in Jasper and 12 in Newton.
