MISSING PERSON- JOSHUA IAN LARKIN: Mr. Joshua Ian Larkin is still missing, and we are actively investigating his whereabouts. We are investigating his actions and movements prior to him being reported as missing. We are looking to talk to any individuals who may have encountered Mr. Larkin in the days prior to him being missing. We are asking for anyone who maybe have seen Mr. Larkin on or before Thursday, November 18th in around the Jasper, Kirbyville, and Newton areas to contact the Newton County Sheriff’s Office (409)379-3636 or 3637. Mr. Larkin who is a W/M, Ht. 6’0, weighs about 180 pounds, and is 38 years of age with short brown hair.
UPDATE ON ARREST: Last week we reported that Chase Allen Chapman was arrested on February 7, 2023. Our investigations revealed that James Tyler Chapman was the individual that was the person that we arrested for possession of a Controlled Substance (Poss. CS PG 3< 28G). Our investigation was through fingerprint identification. James Tyler Chapman has warrants for the following offenses:
Fraudulent Use/Poss. of Identifying Information < 5 Items (SJF)
Fail to Identify Fugitive from Justice (MA)
Tampering with Governmental Record with Intent to Defraud or Harm (SJF)
Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 3 < 28g (MA)
On February 15, 2023, James Tyler Chapman was spotted in Bon Wier driving a vehicle. When one of our Deputies initiated a traffic stop on James Tyler Chapman, he turned on to CR 4101 and Chapman accelerated his vehicle and rounded the corner and tried to get away. James Tyler Chapman ran off the roadway and wrecked into a tree and fled into the woods on foot. A search was conducted with negative results. James Tyler Chapman is wanted on the above offense and now facing additional charges. A photograph of James Tyler Chapman is posted on our Facebook Page. Anyone with information regarding the location of James Tyler Chapman is asked to contact the Newton County Sheriff’s Office at (409)379-3636.

Jail Population: We currently have twenty (20) inmates in the following Jails, thirteen (13) housed in Newton, seven (7) housed in Jasper.
