INDIANAPOLIS (Aug. 30) — The first time Lupe Tortilla Mexican Restaurants driver Chase Murray raced in Super Comp at the U.S. Nationals, he went all the way to the semifinals.
Now, Murray is back at Indy, hoping to go a little further this time at the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals this weekend at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis.
“I’m looking to go two more rounds,” Murray said. “Things are looking good for this weekend.”
Murray drove his Super Comp dragster superbly in 2015 before running into Sportsman superstar Luke Bogacki in the semifinals. While Bogacki ended up winning the race, Murray was still thrilled with his semifinal finish, besting more than 100 drivers in the class.
“To make it down to the final four cars was a huge ego boost for me,” Murray said. “I came up against Luke Bogacki, and he won the race. He’s a previous champion, top dog, best of the best.”
Those are the kind of racers who compete at the U.S. Nationals, and Murray is excited to get the chance to lock horns with them again.
“The U.S. Nationals is a really big deal,” the Orange resident said. “I grew up hearing everybody talk about it, and the best of the best are always here. When any racer says, ‘Hey, I want to go to this race,’ it’s always going to be Indy. To be able to do that is definitely a big deal.”
Murray heads to Indianapolis with some momentum, as he raced to the fourth round of Super Comp in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series race at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Ky., last weekend.
“With the weather change and it being so hot, we’ve been fighting a few inconsistencies with the car,” Murray said. “I actually talked to Luke last weekend, and he was kind enough to say, ‘Hey, try this.’ We made some small changes, and it worked out well.”
