Lawrence Vincent Godeaux, Sr, 86, of Vidor, Texas, passed away on 21 July 2026. He was born on 31, May 1940, in Vidor and remained a lifelong resident of the community.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carolyn (Chesser) Godeaux; his children, Vincent Godeaux Jr. and wife Marilyn, Aaron Jerome Godeaux Sr and wife Amy, Kay Rainwater and husband Todd, and Carri Garner; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and his sister Mary Ann Minton.
Vincent proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps — Semper Fi! Throughout his working life, he served as a process operator at Firestone Chemical, as Street Supervisor for the City of Vidor, and maintenance supervisor at Lamar University.
He will be remembered most for the kindness he showed to others and the humility with which he lived his life. Quick-witted and always ready with a response, he could bring laughter to almost any moment, regardless of the situation. He was an avid fisherman and remained strong as an ox to the very end, but his greatest strength was the love and devotion he had for his family. Family always came first, and he consistently put the needs of others before his own. His family is especially grateful to his granddaughter, Amber, whose loving and devoted care brought him comfort, companionship, and dignity during his final days. His children will always treasure the memories of riding to the lake in the back of the pickup truck, perched atop all the camping gear like kings of the Universe.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Beatrice Godeaux, his brothers John, Hubert, Robert and Patrick, his sisters Rita, Coleen, Jane and Nora and other loved ones.
A funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 PM on 24 July 2026 at Our Lady of Lourdes, located at 1600 North Main St, Vidor, TX. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park. A casual visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on 23 July 2026 at Memorial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
