The City Council in Pinehurst conducted the annual evaluation of Robbie Hood as City Administrator on Tuesday. Afterwards Hood was approved to be the continuing city manager.
Alderman Dan Mohon expressed the feelings of the whole council concerning the superior work being done by Hood in running the City of Pinehurst. Mohon said Hood has done an outstanding job with his hands own style and his certified experience in water and sewer projects.
Hood’s reappointment was just a formality. “He is just here until further notice and that further notice at least right now is his choosing,” Mohon professed. Hood has served as the City Administrator of Pinehurst since 2015.
The tax exemptions for tax year 2018 in Pinehurst will be unchanged. The City Council approved the Local Option Homestead exemption remaining at 20 percent, the senior citizen exemption and the disabled citizen exemption staying at $10,000.
The council authorized Hood to negotiate the sale or lease of city property at 2908 Gull Street. Hood admitted he has been contacted by Chester Moore the director of the Kingdom Zoo who is looking for a new location for his exotic animal collection that he uses to educate children.
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. The council approved a proclamation Tuesday for Child Abuse Prevention.
Kevin Norton is the Board President for the local CASA organization. Norton spoke to the council and shared the sad statistics that make his organization necessary. In fiscal year 2017, 172 children lost their lives in Texas because of child abuse or neglect. The state had over 60,000 confirmed cases of child abuse last year. “We currently serve as the legally appointed guardians for more than 250 children in a six-county area,” Norton stated. The local CASA chapter’s Executive Director Michelle Jones and Program Administrator Tassie Ferrill also attended the meeting.
Thursday will be the annual candlelight vigil to recognize the victims of child abuse and to remember the 172 victims of child abuse in Texas during 2017. The vigil will be at the Orange County Courthouse beginning at 6:00 PM on Thursday.
