Assistant Bridge City Police Chief Brad Frye was injured in Houston Wednesday evening when he chased a suspected shoplifter who then tried to run him over with a car. Houston police said he jumped on the hood of the car and rode on top as the suspect drove around the parking lot.
Police Thursday were still searching for the suspect.
KTRK in Houston reports the incident was about 7 p.m. in the parking lot outside the Sellers Brothers Grocery on the east side of Houston at Federal and East Freeway. The station said Frye was in his uniform, but was off duty. He had been shopping for a generator at a tool store.
The station’s website has a shopping center surveillance video of Frye hanging onto the hood of the car.
