Weekly Fishing Report Week of January 10, 2024
Sam Rayburn
FAIR. Water slightly stained; 53 degrees; 7.31 feet below pool. The creeks are muddy after the recent rains. The forecasted cold front will bring wind and freezing temperatures. The females will start to move shallow in the next few weeks gearing up for the spawn. Bass are good shallow out to 12 feet of water, with some bass on deeper points using rattletraps and shallow running spinnerbaits, and topwaters early. Crankbaits or Carolina rigs off points and drains Crappie are in the creek channels stacking up in deeper water. White bass are moving up the river using small rattletraps and roadrunners. Catfish are in the creeks in 12-30 feet of water biting cut bait, or live minnows. Report by Captain Lynn Atkinson, Reel Um N Guide Service. Large amounts of black bass are offshore, in creek channels or main lake ditches biting Alabama rigs, jigging spoons, dropshots or shaky heads. There is a shallow bite in the early morning and late afternoon on chatterbaits, lipless crankbaits or hybrid hunters. Report by Captain Hank Harrison, Double H Precision Fishing.
Toledo Bend
GOOD. Water clear; 52-54 degrees; 3.82 feet below pool. After the recent rains the water temperature dropped to the low 50s and the creeks are muddy. Super cold weather is in the forecast so expect a tough week for fishing. Shallow fish will be difficult to catch, so best to key on fish in the 8-20 feet range. Crappie bite was improving, but this front will hamper the bite for the next week or two. Report by Stephen Johnston, Johnston Fishing.
SALTWATER
Sabine Lake
GOOD. 58 degrees. The forecasted norther will keep anglers off the lake due to cold temperatures and high winds. Best success will be fishing the Neches River while the blustery winds blow. Trout, redfish, flounder and very nice catfish can be caught off the rocks, points, shell banks and drops with Carolina rigs in 4-20 feet of water. Flounder are still in the system and moving around biting plastics tipped with shrimp. Marsh is holding limits of sheepshead and drum in 4-9 feet of water along the shell banks, points and ship turnarounds. Fish are deeper feeding on mud minnows and marsh minnows, so fish with live shrimp on a Carolina rig. The north end of Sabine Lake is good for slot trout or redfish drifting off Stewts Island, or wade fishing with topwaters and suspended baits off of points and shell banks. Pleasure Island Point North Levee continues to have an early morning bite for nice redfish, speckled trout and flounder on live shrimp on popping cork or Carolina rig. Report by Captain Randy Foreman, Captain Randy’s Guide Service Sabine Lake.
Bolivar
GOOD. 60-65 degrees. Goat Island drains water runoff into the open water, holding redfish and trout on topwaters early and late, soft plastics later. Fish cuts through the intercoastal waterway from goat Island to rollover. Ytes Bayou drains holding redfish on soft plastics and live shrimp under popping cork. Report by Captain Raymond Wheatley, Tail Spotter Guide Service.
