A firefighter for both the Pinehurst and West Orange Volunteer Fire Dept. was arrested and charged with felony second degree arson Wednesday afternoon.
Travis Dupuy, 32, was in West Orange on Irving Street when he threw a flare out of his window, catching some grass on fire. The crime was witnessed by West Orange Asst. Police Chief Jessie Romero who happened to be behind him.
Romero also noticed fire coming from some hay bales on Burnett Street. Firefighters from several departments were called in to help the WOFD.
Dupuy was arrested after admitting during the interview process that he did set the fire on Irving.

West Orange and Pinehurst have had a number of suspicious grass fires and vacant house fires this year. Dupuy is expected to be questioned about those as the investigation continues.
Pinehurst City Administrator Robbie Hood said Dupuy, who served the city as Asst. Fire Chief, has been relieved of his duties. WO Chief David Roberts also said Dupuy has been released.
