Dressed in his orange bow tie on a Wednesday, Lamar State College Orange President Dr. Tom Johnson said, “This is another of many great days ahead for LSCO.”
The last beam was placed on the 55,000 square foot Academic Building on the property that formerly housed Hibernia Bank or the “mirrored building” as many called it. But before it was hoisted in the air, school administrators/teachers and some from the Durotech construction crew and county officials signed the beam, which was then delivered by crane while Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless The USA” played over the PA system.
Governor Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 52 into law in 2021, officially granting LSCO $37,435,695 to construct what will be the largest building to date on the LSCO campus.
The building will feature administrative offices, classrooms, labs, prep spaces, large lounge areas, and more. Completion is expected by the end of the year.
