
Eugene Ross Sanders was born on January 23, 1944, in Orange, Texas to Nancy Sanders. He was called from labor to reward on April 2, 2025.
He attended and graduated from school in Orange, Texas. A skilled lead guitarist, he was a member of world famous, Ray Charles Orchestra. He toured Europe, North Africa, South America, Australia, and Iceland with the group. He performed on the Johnny Carson Show, Austin City Limits, and the Ray Charles 40th Anniversary Television Special.
He also had the opportunity to perform with artist, such as Bobby “Blue” Bland, Johnny Taylor, Clarence “Gate Mouth” Brown, Lionel Hampton, Johnny, Hartman. He also shared the stage with comedians, Bill Cosby, and Flip Wilson.
Eugene performed at Carnegie Hall, the Apollo theater, Monterey Jazz Festival, New Orleans, Jazz and Heritage Festival, the Antibes Jazz festival in France. After years of touring, he made Baton Rouge his home.
He was a faithful member of the Rose Hill Church, until his health failed. He loved his church.
Eugene was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Sanders-Simon and sister, Peggy Simon.
Forever cherishing his memory are his nephew and caretaker for the past four years, Pastor Mark A. Sanders, Sr. and wife, Marie Sanders; brother, Pastor James Sanders and wife, Audrey; sister, Pamela Simon; nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life will be Thursday, April 17th at 11:00 am. Viewing will be begin at 9:00 am.
