On Sunday Emergency Services District #3 held a traditional “Push-In” of their new 2025 Sutphen Fire Truck. It’s something they’ve been patiently waiting to do since they ordered it three years ago.
“There was some supply and demand issues,” said Commissioner Scott McDonald. But it takes time to build and it’s custom to the specifications we wanted. But we’re glad to have it to serve our community.”
The tradition of the ceremonial “Push-In” dates back to the 1800’s when fire engines were pulled by horses. When firefighters returned from a call they would have to unhook the horses from the engine and then push it by hand back into its bay.
The “first out” engine will replace a 2011 version that will become a reserve vehicle.
“We’d like to thank the community and the past and present board members for their support,” said Chief Matt Manshack. “The truck with the new technology and more capabilities will allow our firefighters to be more equipped and efficient when needed.”
McDonald added that the department is always looking for volunteer firefighters. They will help you get trained and certified so if you’re interested, stop by the station on Hwy. 87.
