The board of directors for the Orange County Economic Development Corporation met for almost three hours Friday. The meeting was held in the Port District offices and was chaired by Port of Orange Director Gene Bouillon.
There was support to keep the corporation alive, but there was no confirmed plan how to do it. County Judge Brint Carlton summarized the discussions by the board members during the meeting that there was still positive feedback to keep the group together.
Judge Carlton admitted that part of the discussions in a closed session involved one or more possible candidates to be the new executive director of the EDC. Carlton indicated further contact with the candidates would be done and the board may schedule a meeting later to discuss those findings.
No date was set for a follow up meeting, but Carlton stated there could be another meeting before the outgoing Executive Director Bobby Fillyaw leaves at the end of December especially if the contacts with any candidates look positive. Carlton confirmed there probably would be more meetings in January. Discussions during the meeting did show agreement amongst the board members that a workshop should be called when a definite plan of how to proceed is reached to help persuade more partnerships and develop more unity in the Economic Development Corporation.
