Early voting for city council and school board races will start on Monday. The May 4 election includes a bond election for the Bridge City school district.
Most people across Orange County will be using electronic voting machines for the first time.
The exception will be the city of West Orange. Voters in that town will be using the old-fashioned paper ballots with early voting at city hall. If you live in the city of West Orange, you will then need to go to one of the other three early voting sites for the West Orange-Cove school board election.
Because of the electronic voting system, voters in any school district or for any other council race will be able to go to one of the three other sites. Those sites are the Orange Public Library, Bridge City ISD administration building, and the Raymond Gould Community Center in Vidor.
The cities of Pinehurst and Bridge City canceled elections because of no contested races.
With the new electronic voting machines, clerks at the sites will give each voter a customized paper slip to put into the voting computer. The appropriate races or issue will then appear on the electronic screen. The voter will touch the square to vote for a person, or, yes or no for the issue.
When the process is finished, the voter will remove the slip of paper from the machine. The paper will list the votes cast. The voter will be able to check how their votes were listed. If there is a mistake, the voter can go to the election judge.
If everything is correct, the voter will deposit the paper in a locked box.
Early voting will begin Monday, April 22, and continue through Friday. Then open again on Monday April 29 and Tuesday April 30, which will be the last day.
West Orange City Hall (only for West Orange City Council) will have hourse from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, then again on Monday April 29. The extended hours will be Tuesdays April 23 and April 30 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
All other elections will have early voting at the Orange Public Library, Bridge City ISD Administration Building, and Raymond Gould Community Center in Vidor. Those early boxes have the same schedules, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, then again on Monday April 29. Extended hours will be Tuesdays April 23 and April 30 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Election Day is Saturday May 4.
