At United Way of Orange County, our vision is to serve as a champion of our community to empower individuals with knowledge and resources to create lasting, positive change. Our focus areas are health, education, and financial stability. We understand the importance and need for early intervention for children and students at a young age.
United Way of Orange County, in partnership with Shorkey Center, is excited to share that we are collaborating to offer two early learning screening clinics for children of Orange. There will be two days of screening, both held at The Salvation Army in Orange. The first screening will be held on Friday, March 7th, and the second screening will be held on Friday, March 28th, both beginning at 8:00 a.m. and concluding at noon. Though the clinic is over a four-hour period, the actual screening is only 15-20 minutes per child. Each appointment will be staggered every 15 minutes. The first child will be called at 8:15, the next at 8:30, and so on. This will allow the clinic to see 15 children per session, and a total of 30 children overall. Each child will need to be registered in advance.
Shorkey Center will have a screening for speech, occupational therapy, and additional screening for educational and behavioral concerns. Shorkey Center will provide a therapist and specialist for each of these screenings. All therapists and specialists have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and are licensed in the state of Texas.
Clinics like this can identify those who might be at risk for reading, behavior, and other difficulties at an early stage. This clinic will use various assessments to meet the age and need of the child in multiple areas. The early learning screening consists of assessments in areas of physical (gross/fine motor) social emotional, adaptive behavior, cognitive, language, and behavior. This clinic is FREE and open to any child in Orange County; advanced registration is required. Thanks to Entergy for funding this project.
We encourage you to share this information with others you believe would benefit from this service. To register, please email info@uwoctx.org or call 409-883-3591.
